To put it in the simplest possible terms, the 990 was born to be the best. That's not poetic license; New Balance's designers were legitimately told to make the best running shoe in the world, regardless of the time and money it cost. 

The 990 has been continuously produced ever since, is a hallmark of quality and style that transcends trends and labels, and is just generally regarded as a top running shoe of all time. Safe to say, the designers back then nailed it. 

The latest iteration in New Balance's "Version" series is here with the M990VS3, or the "Version 3" as you'll see on the red tag. It's an homage to yet another New Balance classic with premium uppers, and ENCAP midsole cushioning.
